How to Care for a Baby Axolotl

Baby Axolotl Care

Baby Axolotls are unique, fun pets that are easy to care for when you provide the right environment!

Water

  • Keep water cool: 60–68°F
  • Always use dechlorinated water (purchase water conditioner from a pet store or where ever pet supplies are sold.
  • Maintain clean, well-filtered water
  • Avoid strong water currents

Feeding

Feed your baby axolotl appropriately sized axolotl pellets, worms, or other suitable foods. Feed small portions and remove uneaten food. You may need to use tweezers to hand feed worms to your baby axolotl. Feed 1-2 times each day.

We feed our babies brine shimp and/or small red worms. Store the worms in the refrigerator.

Habitat

Provide hiding places and a comfortable, low-light environment.  DO NOT small gravel or rocks to your aquarium that your axolotl could swallow.

Handling

Axolotls have delicate skin, so handle as little as possible. Use a container or soft net when moving them.

Keep Them Healthy

Cool water + clean water + proper food = a happy axolotl!

As your baby axolotl grows, remember to provide a larger habitat and continue monitoring water quality.
